President’s Report

With summer already half over, we are getting ready for another fun and exciting hockey season.  I would like to thank Dave Steinhilber and last year’s Board of Directors for all their time and hard work.  I look forward to working with this year’s Board.

We will be implementing some new changes in our registration this year, please mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 8th or Tuesday, August 14th  and sign your skater(s) up as soon as possible.  There will be a slight increase in fees this year; this is due to a minimal raise in ice rates.  Parents, skaters and coaches will be required to sign a new code of conduct.

We have many projects that need to be taken care of before the season begins and we need as many volunteers as possible to help out with our golf outing.  This is our major fundraiser for the year which helps in keeping our registration as low as possible. This would be a great way to get started on your volunteer hours for next season.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

 Sincerely,

Dan Paulsen

President – SWCYHA

Registration

You will need to register your skater at the rink this year.  Registration will be the following dates and times:

bullet Wednesday, August 8, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
bullet Tuesday, August 14, 4:00 – 7:00 PM

On the night you register, you will be required to pay half of each player’s registration fee, $100 per family for raffle tickets, and $20 for new jerseys (Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam & Club players).  The second portion of your registration fee will be due by October 1, 2007.  Any player who does not have their registration paid in full by the first day of tryouts will not be allowed to participate until payment is received.  A policy is in place for special circumstances with regards to the inability to pay for registration fees.  Please contact the President or Secretary prior to the deadline dates if a special circumstance needs to be considered.  WIAA boys will have to pay a $100 tryout fee at registration and the $100 raffle ticket fundraiser.  The $100 tryout fee covers practice ice and insurance prior to team selection.  This fee will be deducted from the full registration.

Power Skating

As a reminder, a Power Skating Clinic will be held October 1st – 4th and 8th – 11th.  Registration forms can be found on our website.

New SWCYHA Jerseys:

The SWCYHA board of directors would like to thank all of the members who gave their input throughout the process of the SWCYHA jersey and logo change.  After much deliberation, the SWCYHA board of directors approved the jersey color and logo change.

All Squirts, PeeWee, Bantam, and Club players will need new jerseys for the 2007-08 season.

Rationale: To represent our association’s history, the original red and white colors were selected along with a simple, yet traditional design.  On the jersey, “SWCYHA” on shoulder represents who we are as an association, “RAPIDS” on the front of the jersey indicates where we practice and play.  We are all a part of the “Rapids Hockey” family and tradition.

Process:  To offset the cost of the new jerseys, the mandatory fundraiser (raffle) will be set up to defer the total cost of the jerseys.   Each family member will be required to sell 20 raffle tickets at $5.00 per ticket or $100 worth of raffle tickets.  In addition to the selling of raffle tickets, each family will pay $20 per child for a new set of jerseys (home and away).  If a family has 2 children in the association, they are required to sell the 20 raffle tickets and pay $40 for two sets of jerseys.

Bantam players with one year of playing eligibility will be required to meet their mandatory fundraising requirements or the selling of 20 raffle tickets.  These players can have the option of paying or not paying the additional $20 fee for the jerseys.  If they elect to not pay the $20 fee, at the end of the season the jersey will be property of SWCYHA, the jersey must be returned in good condition.  If they wish to keep the jerseys a payment of $20 is required.

Evaluation and Selection Dates for the 2007-2008 season

Evaluation and Selection dates will be 10/20, 10/21, 10/22.  For your review, the form used by the evaluators for each player/skater can be found on the SWCYHA website.

Golf Outing Fundraiser

HEADS UP!!  On September 8th we will be hosting an 18-hole golf scramble at the Bulls Eye Country Club.  It’s time to start putting your foursome together!  If you are interested in helping make this a memorable and successful event, please contact Candy Blakeslee at 423-6674 or blakeslee4@wctc.net.  Forms are available on our website.

Volunteer Hours

Each family will be required to work 35 hours this season.  Five of these hours must be put in during your team’s home tournament.  Five hours need to be in maintenance.  Each family must also work one fall football game and two WIAA hockey games. Each family is responsible about writing in their own hours.  $20 per hour will be charged for each hour that is not worked at the end of the season.
