Board of Directors’ Meeting Minutes

South Wood County Rec. Center

September 25, 2006

Attendance:     The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dave Steinhilber.  Board Members present were Candy Blakeslee, Eileen Hillila, Daniel Janik, Kelly Lamb, Carmella Lyp, Doug Kreuser, Tim McNaughton, Jane Overfelt, Lynn Schroer, and Dave Steinhilber.  Bernie Esselman and Jess Yenter were absent.  Pat McDonald, WIAA Boys’ head coach, was a guest.

Minutes:           The minutes were approved for August 21. M2 (Hillila/Lyp)

Boys WIAA:     Pat McDonald discussed the WIAA budget.  He also noted that the 2005-06 team received a sportsmanship award from the coaches association for the state tournament.

President’s

Report:            Dave Steinhilber reported that future Board meetings will be held on the 4^th Monday of each month.  He also gave an update on the grant supplied by the South Wood County Charitable Advisory Fund to help supply equipment for mites and mini-mites.  Discussion was held on the  planning by the Rec. Center to purchase an electric zamboni next year. This would cost approximately $85,000.  $35,000 has been pledged by Wood County Trust and the Rec. Center has $20,000 set aside so far for this purchase.  Discussion was also held on the number of teams for next year.  Pros and cons were discussed for the possibility of there being three squirt teams.  The first contracted week of ice by SWCYHA is the week of October 9.

Volunteer

 Hours:            Last year SWCYHA members put in approximately 5200 hours of volunteer time.  It was proposed that this season’s hours be increased from 25 to 30 hours.  It was also proposed that the fee for unworked hours be increased from $10 to $20.  M2 (Kreuser/McNaughton) approved.

State

Tournament:   The deadline for teams entering the state tournament is November 15.  As soon as team selection is completed, members need to decide whether or not they are interested so that payment and confirmation can be sent in.

 Fundraising:   This summer’s golf outing was a big success.  This season SWCYHA will be selling season passes for the WIAA Boys’ games.  SWCYHA will also be selling raffle tickets for cash prizes.  Each player will be required to sell at least $50 worth of tickets.

U12/U14

Girls Co-op:     SWCYHA recently received a check from the Portage County Youth Hockey Association for concession and volunteer coverage at the Girls’ U12/U14 tournament held last year in Stevens Point.  A portion of the SWCYHA income is a net result of volunteer hours and revenue generated from tournaments.  As with all other teams in our association, monies generated from tournaments cannot go to individual teams.  The monies will be credited to the general SWCYHA tournament fund.  In the true nature of the co-op teams, all concession and proceeds from the tournaments will be shared equally with each association.  This year PCYOI will host the U12/U14 tournament and next year SWCYHA will host this tournament.  Proceeds will be split 50-50.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday, October 23, 2006, 7:00 PM, at the South Wood County Rec. Center.
