Board of Directors’ Meeting Minutes

South Wood County Rec. Center

July 10, 2006

Attendance:     The meeting was called to order at 6:45 PM by President, Dave Steinhilber.  Board Members present were Candy Blakeslee, Eileen Hillila, Daniel Janik, Carmella Lyp, Jane Overfelt, Lynn Schroer, and Dave Steinhilber.  Bernie Esselman, Jess Yenter, Doug Kreuser, and Kelly Lamb were absent.

Minutes:          The minutes were approved for the May 15 and June 5 meetings. M2 (Steinhilber/Hillila)

President’s

Report:            Dave Steinhilber reported that no one has submitted a nomination form in the one year Board term available.  He also reported that Bernie Esselman and Jim Kollock have agreed to be in charge of equipment this year.  Steinhilber thanked Carmella Lyp and her committee for the time and effort put forth to organize the parade float.  Special thanks went out to Reeves Transport and Miller Trucking for the truck and flat bed used in the parade.

Vice

President’s

Report:            Daniel Janik reported on the progress of the mite development program.  There will be a progression in the amount of games played from the mini mite level to the mite 4 level.  Tournaments will count as games.  SWCYHA will be a part of a Central Wisconsin league with Stevens Point, Marshfield, Waupaca, and the CW Saints. Our level 3 mites will play these teams on Saturday mornings.

WIAA Girls:      Chip Lacasse and Fran Nelson joined the Board to discuss the Girls’ WIAA co-op program.  This program will be run by the WIAA Girls’ Booster Club.  SWCYHA will register the WIAA Girls for USA Hockey, but the Booster Club will handle all other monetary items.  Girls’ WIAA will pay $450 in skating fees this season.  After much discussion, a proposal was put forth suggesting the Girls’ WIAA work half the volunteer hours of the rest of the association.  A formal proposal will be presented to the team at a later date.

Registration

Fees:               The Board reviewed the Rec. Center’s ice contract.  There is approximately a $6000 increase in fees this year due to rising costs of utilities, upkeep of the zamboni, and other Rec. Center repairs.  This $6000 and an approximate $4000 loss from the WIAA Girls’ skating fees add up to a $10,000 loss in revenue for the association this year.  Therefore, the Board discussed the necessity of raising skater fees this season.  After a lengthy discussion, a suggestion was put made to raise the rates mini-mite through bantam $20 per skater.  Discussion was also held on what to do with the Girls U-12 and U-14 girls’ teams to make their fees more equitable with the other teams in the association (squirt/peewee or peewee/bantam).  Because SWCYHA co-ops with Stevens Point, their rates were reviewed. A proposal was made to raise skater fees $20 mini mite through bantam and to raise the girls’ U-12 and U-14 to squirt/peewee levels. M2 (Janik/Schroer) Approved.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday, July 31, 2006, 6:30 PM, at the South Wood County Rec. Center

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:51 PM. M/2 (Steinhilber/Overfelt) Carried.
