SOUTH WOOD COUNTY YOUTH HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Board of Directors’ Meeting Minutes Jane Overfelt’s Home December 18, 2006
Attendance: The meeting was called to order at 7:23 PM by President, Dave Steinhilber. Board Members present were Candy Blakeslee, Eileen Hillila, Daniel Janik, Carmella Lyp, Tim McNaughton, Jane Overfelt, Daniel Paulsen, Lynn Schroer, and Dave Steinhilber. Bernie Esselman, Doug Kreuser, and Kelly Lamb were absent.
Minutes: The minutes were approved via proxy for November 27, 2006 and December 4, 2006.
President’s Report: Dave Steinhilber reported that the South Wood County Recreation Center will be purchasing a new electric Zamboni at a cost of approximately $100,000. SWCYHA will be contributing $20,000 in two installments. $5000 will be paid to SWCRC on April 1 and $15,000 will be paid on July 1. The delivery date will be July 2007. The old Zamboni will be kept at this time.
Dave Barber has been working on a camera project for the association. Cameras are being installed throughout the rink to help out during games. For instance, one will be installed in the WIAA locker room to see the progress of the Zamboni in between periods of the high school games. Also, a camera will be placed in the concession stand so that the workers can watch what is happening on the ice. They can also be used for crowd control if necessary. The cameras were donated by Stora Enso and Dave Barber is volunteering his time for the installation. A motion was made to approve payment of $168 for the purchase of cabling and material necessary to complete the camera project. M2 (Paulsen/Blakeslee) Approved.
On the east end of the building the SWC Rec Center is constructing rooms for youth hockey coaches, figure skaters equipment, WIAA equipment and Rec Center equipment. The existing shed will be removed. Following transfer of the WIAA equipment, SWCYHA will be able to fully utilize the equipment storage area upstairs.

Tournaments: A spreadsheet is being compiled for the income and expense of tournaments we are hosting this year. Discussion was held on whether SWCYHA should continue to charge an admission fee for tournaments at the Peewee and Bantam level or whether the team entry fee should be raised. This year’s Bantam tournament raised approximately $3500.
Registration: Many families have not made their final 2006-07 registration fee payment. Phone calls will be made and skaters will be kept off the ice if payments are not made by January 8. Discussion was held on how to improve the registration process for next season. Consideration will be given that all registration fees must be paid prior to team selection in October.
WIAA Games: Each team needs two workers for every WIAA game. Some are not showing up. It was proposed that next year volunteer names and phone numbers are put on the sign-up sheet so those that are absent will be called. Discussion was held on whether teams should lose practice time when workers do not show up. Teams will be given one warning and then a practice will be taken away.
Goalie Practice: Goalie practice is held every other week for one half hour of on ice training. An additional one half hour of dry land practice is also offered. Discussion was held on how to improve the growth of our goalie program. Should the association help to alleviate the expenses for goalie equipment? Should registration fees be less for goalies? These questions are being looked into and reviewed.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday, January 22, 2007, 7:00 PM, at the South Wood County Rec. Center.
