SOUTH WOOD COUNTY YOUTH HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Board of Directors’ Meeting Minutes South Wood County Rec. Center October 23, 2006
Attendance: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dave Steinhilber. Board Members present were Candy Blakeslee, Bernie Esselman, Eileen Hillila, Daniel Janik, Carmella Lyp, Doug Kreuser, Tim McNaughton, Jane Overfelt, Lynn Schroer, and Dave Steinhilber. Kelly Lamb and Jess Yenter were absent.
President’s Report: Dave Steinhilber reported that Jess Yenter is resigning from the SWCYHA Board due to the fact that his family has moved to Stevens Point. This position is being opened up to the association and a replacement will be chosen at the Board meeting on Monday, November 6. Applications will be taken through Friday, November 3 at 6:00. This is a one-year position. Steinhilber also reported that zamboni training will be held soon. This information will be put on the website. The mezzanine will only be open during WIAA games and for coaches using it with their teams for dry land practices. Discussion was also held on night lock-up policies and locker room policies to be put together by the Board. Vice President’s Report: Dan Janik spoke about team selections. Discussion was held on the one-day versus two-day selections held for the bantam level players. One suggestion by the judges for next year is to have players wearing only two colors of pennies rather than the four used this year. Some concerns by the association were the age of some of the evaluators and the coaches being on the ice with their own kids. The association tries to get no-biased judges and believes that the players know the coaches at their level and how they run the drills. It may be confusing to have others run the team selections. The following coaches were chosen for the 2006-07 season: Bantam A- John Hanzlik/Doug Kreuser Bantam B- Mike Sweeney/Todd Elmquist Peewee A- Daniel Janik/Butch Hillila/Mark Olinyk Peewee B- Martin Munce/John DuPlissis Squirt A- Steve Kreuser/Jim Simon/Jim Kollock Squirt B- Jeff Reeves/Jordan Gilbert
State Tournament: The deadline for teams entering the state tournament is November 15. As soon as team selection is completed, members need to decide whether or not they are interested so that payment and confirmation can be sent in. The Board will send in the payment and the parents will reimburse the Board.
Fundraising: This season SWCYHA will be selling season passes for the WIAA Boys’ games. SWCYHA will also be selling raffle tickets for cash prizes. Each player will be required to sell at least $50 worth of tickets. There will also be a moped raffle. A moped was won by Debra Franz at a concessions meeting. This raffle will be drawn in March after all of the association’s tournaments. A committee is being formed to oversee these raffles.
WIAA Budget: A motion was made to approve the equipment budget for the WIAA boy’s hockey team for the 2006-07 season. M2 (Blakeslee/Janik) Approved.
USA Hockey Insurance: This year it was learned that the WIAA boys and girls do not need USA Hockey Insurance because they are covered under WIAA. Therefore SWCYHA will be reducing the fees for the WIAA boys by $40 for the 2006-07 season. Parents will be notified of this after WIAA try-outs are completed. Players that choose to play post season will have to register for USA Hockey Insurance on-line. SWCYHA does not receive the fees for the WIAA girls so it is their booster club’s decision as to what is done with the $40 insurance payment.
Team Sponsors: Ten sponsors have been confirmed as SWCYHA sponsors. Three more are pending. Banners will be used this year to recognize these sponsors rather than patches. These banners will hang behind the players’ benches at all home and away games. Team managers will be responsible for getting these banners to the away games.
New Players: Players new to the sport of hockey will be given a 50% reduction in fees for their first year with SWCYHA for all skaters squirt and above. M2 (Blakeslee/McNaughton) Approved.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday, November 6, 2006, 7:00 PM, at the South Wood County Rec. Center.
Motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:05 PM. M/2 (Steinhilber/Hillila) Carried. |
